Earth Friendly Concrete For Sustainable Garden At The Chelsea Flower Show
Capital Concrete has supplied Earth Friendly Concrete (EFC) for one of the show gardens at the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) event that took place in late May.
Designed in partnership by estate agents Savills and landscaping company Landform the exhibit, named “The Savills Garden”, was made up of a variety of ornamental and edible plants which aimed to showcase the importance of sustainable practices in each aspect of its creation, and included a kitchen where guests could enjoy a meal made from the garden’s ingredients.
Herbs such as fennel, bay and sage surrounded the garden’s dining area, showing visitors where their sustainable meal was sourced while Sam Buckley, a young British chef with a Michelin green star, a star given to chefs who focus on sustainable practices, prepared and cooked ingredients from the garden throughout the show.

On their search for more sustainable building materials when constructing the garden, Landform chose EFC as it uses alternatives to CEM1 which result in much lower embodied carbon, a more sustainable option when compared to traditional concrete, helping to reduce the carbon footprint on projects such as these.

The garden looked fantastic and knowing that the concrete footings will be recycled once the Chelsea Flower Show comes to a close is great.”
